Planning Your Perfect Vancouver Wedding

Vancouver is not only a beautiful city to live in, it is also an incredible place to say, ‘I do’! With all its diversity, Vancouver offers almost unlimited options for the wedding day of your dreams!

To start off on the right track, we recommend you sit down with your fiancé and create a list of your must haves for the big day. We have created a Top 5 of the most important elements for you to consider:

1 - The Venue:

Do you envision a cozy Gastown venue like L’abbatoir or something bright and modern like the Polygon Gallery. Defining what you want most for the venue is probably the best first step to bringing your vision to life.

A few other key points are, do they offer catering or coordination? Is there an option in case of weather? Can the venue accommodate your guest list? Can you get ready onsite?

2 - The Photography:

Your photographer is the vendor you will be spending the most time with on your wedding day. Not to mention the one who will capture the memories for a lifetime. Its important they not only have the right style and vibe but that they can make you and your fiancé feel relaxed and at ease. So you can get the best forever pics!

For our own photos, we love Nomad by NK our Vancouver photog besties. Their fun, easy going energy can disarm even the most nervous or awkward.

3 - The Ceremony:

What type of ceremony do you picture? Traditional, in a church, outdoors with an officiant or something completely different? There are many options to consider.

Most officiants will offer a few options for your ceremony wording. This way you can ensure the ceremony speaks personally to you, your fiance and your loved ones! A well experienced go to for officiants is the awesome team at Young, Hip and Married.

4 - The Dress:

These days almost anything goes for wedding dresses. Keep it traditional and white, mix it up with a pantsuit or go totally modern with a bright colour. We also love a look change for the reception with a more party friendly outfit.

For glamour gowns, we love Rituals of Love. Modern and stylish vibe, amazing customer service and accessories makes it a perfect spot to find your perfect dress.

If you are looking for something more versatile and minimal, we love Fern & Moon. Their mix and match pieces are totally flexible, stylish and great for the all day look or that surprise look change! We also love Kathryn Bass bridal for whimsical gowns, versatile options and top notch, hands on service.

5 - The Hair & Makeup:

Perhaps we are biased but this one is a biggie! We hear all the time how important it is to our brides to look and feel like themselves and we couldn't agree more. We love natural hair and makeup styling for this reason!

We also feel its paramount that you and your hair and makeup artists have a great rapport. We love to arrive on the wedding day like just another friend. We are there to help you look and feel beautiful and of course diffuse any stress.

When choosing your styling team, look for work that feels like you and that has a personality that attracts you. We also recommend having a trial beforehand. It is the best way to get to know your team and test out your bridal hair and makeup inspo. This will ensure you feel confident going into the wedding day.

BONUS 6 - The Planner:

Make your life easy and your wedding day a breeze by hiring a wedding planner! Leave all the big details and tricky time coordination to the professionals! Vancouver is home to so many talented wedding planners to support you through your planning journey! We love tried and true team at Dreamgroup. The sweet and fun gems of Sweetheart Events and the always awesome and talent team of Smitten Events, just to name a few!
