We are always talking about the incredible opportunity to connect with people thru social media. We have made it a beloved practice to collaborate with local innovators while travelling and it has been seriously inspiring, heart warming and super fun to meet some really talented and genuine creators around the world. When we reached out to Moni of Moni + Adri Photography to ask about collaborating during our latest trip to Playa del Carmen, we had no idea what would come of the attempt at connection. It turned out that not only was she a amazing photographer, she was also wonderfully sweet and a totally driven business woman. While photographing weddings nearly every day we were in Mexico, Moni made the time to connect with us and from our first interactions, we were blown away by her open and friendly vibe. We excitedly talked about all the possibilities, locations and inspirations and were pleasantly surprised to hear about her newest venture, a destination wedding vlog called Sail the Veil. She wanted to incorporate an interview with us /// SEE BELOW!!! /// all about destination wedding hair and makeup during our shoot! WOW!!! Now our original ideas were not only coming to life, we also got an unexpected video interview and a bunch of awesome tips from Moni of others to bring on board for the shoot. On her recommendation we reached out the the impeccably modern Andaz Mayakoba who graciously agreed to have us shoot on their gorgeous resort. For florals Moni suggested the wildly talented Vanessa Jaimes for florals. The shoot came together even more perfect that we could have dreamed, creating incredible imagery and making awesome new friends and we love we got the chance to share all our best destination wedding hair and makeup tips and products!

Returning to Mexico and Playa del Carmen this year, we knew we wanted to pull together a few creative styled shoots. We started with wardrobe here in Vancouver because we wanted to ‘travel with’ a few of our home based gems. We got in touch with our new friends, the wonderfully brilliant Fern and Moon to lend us a few pieces. These exceptionally driven best friends are the masterminds behind this super versatile and supremely designed line of bridal separates. Their modern pieces offer any bride the perfect combination for her figure and style with soo many options from crop tops to bodysuits (with every desired sleeve or no sleeve option) to full skirts to the most impeccably fit pair of suit pants. AND on top of all that, they travel outrageously well! We also asked the amazingly talented Kady, the woman behind the so so stylish Jane Rhyan the Collection for a few of her stunning veils. She let us take all our top faves with a perfect mix of 60’s mod, timeless simplicity and just fun! One of her veils was so feisty that it kept taking air during one of the shoots… hopefully there will be a photo to prove it…
Once we had wardrobe and our Vancouver representation sorted, we set out to connect with a few inspiring local Playa del Carmen/Cancun/Tulum wedding talents and of course, ‘brides’ or our models!
The incredible thing about social media is the social factor and the ability to connect directly with anyone anywhere in the world. We searched hashtags for the areas we were in and scoured other accounts we already followed in these cities and surrounding towns. We were super lucky to discover the extraordinary Moni & Adri Photography and her super cool new video project Sail the Veil and their awesome team. And we reached back to last years connections, friends and photographers we had met, like the totally talented Hideki of Button Up Photography who introduced us to his new endeavour the WLKRS with his lovely and also talented friend Andre Gouin Photography. We also connected with some wildly gorgeous models Tonje, Aleksandra and Luna. It is seriously awe-inspiring how it all comes together. Having an idea, sharing the idea, connecting, chatting, brainstorming, troubleshooting and really making new friendships and connections based on wanting to create beauty together. Everyone we connected with during our creative shoots showed up this way, open, friendly, present and excited to be there and create something special. We even had gorgeous and glam venues like Andaz Mayakoba and El Pueblito Mayakoba open their doors to host us because we reached out with a determination and a plan/dream.
We can’t wait to show you what we have been up to (even more) during our travels in the Mayan Riviera, to show you more of our love of creating and collaborating with other inspired people!!!
♡ STAY TUNED!! ♡
Right from the beginning of our adventure with Save the Date Beauty we knew we wanted to make travelling a part of our business. We loved the idea of travelling for love and making destination weddings a part of our lives. Along with our partners, we revered spending time outside of Vancouver and we all routinely spent a lot of time on the Sunshine Coast. Soon we were actively working on booking weddings up there. Those efforts created some super special friendships and really set off our Sunshine Coast chapter. As we continued to get to explore the Coast, other destinations started calling and we began regularly travelling to Galiano and Bowen islands and up to Squamish and Whistler. And we started dreaming beyond our incredible province and about all the tropical destinations calling our hearts! We were talking about it all the time. Searching destination wedding hashtags and thinking about all the places we could go. As it has been a long held love and also a pretty easy/affordable trip from Vancouver, we set out sights on Mexico. We started looking at which part of the wildly diverse and so so beautiful country to really focus in on. Maybe it was that crazy perfectly blue water or maybe it was the sweet flight deal we found but we had our answer, Playa del Carmen. Right in the middle of the Riviera Maya strip, you had it all right in the heart of a Mexican city and still totally accessible to all the resorts that most destination brides seek out for their weddings. There’s nothing like getting to visit a place again and again to have it start to feel like ‘home.’ In that way to say it becomes familiar, comfortable and special to you. You get to learn its nuances and treasures you could never know from hashtags, articles, reviews or even photos. You get to meet the people and learn from the ground up and that is seriously one of the best things about travelling for us. This year our travels took us outside of Playa del Carmen a little more and we got to spend a few (albeit too quick) days in Tulum and got a little lay of the land from cursing the Cancun – Tulum highway for all our adventures. Straight off of coming home, we can’t wait to go back. Back for more adventures and getting to know more of the Riviera Maya and back for the awesome and friendly connections we made in another piece of paradise.

We love destination weddings and one of our top fave areas is in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Getting married in Playa del Carmen? Tulum? Cancun? Or Cozumel? We are offering top bridal hair and makeup styling, on or off location, at unbeatable prices to suit your budget!
Trillium Resort and Spa – Port Sydney, Muskoka ON
We have fallen completely in love with this beautiful cottage style venue. This serene 86 acre resort features 17 cottages and chalets for your family and friends to spend a memorable weekend celebrating the love between you and your partner! Our favourite part about Trillium is the Post-and-Beam Dining Room, featuring an antique bar, wooden beamed cathedral ceilings and a stone fireplace. The large arched windows offer stunning natural light and a picturesque view of Devine Lake. The dining room is often used for indoor ceremonies, with incredible staff to transform it into your dining reception area and later to a floor to dance the night away! We absolutely love that Trillium also offers ceremonies outside on the lawn or the beach front, with the stunning private lake as your back drop to say I do! They also have an on location Spa offering a special array of services for you and your bridal party to be pampered and unwind before the big day. The resort also has a pool, a variety of motor less boats at the lake and a charming waterfall for you to enjoy during your stay. Safe to say, the incredible team at Trillium Resort and Spa specialize in making your cottage style wedding dreams come true!
Windermere House – Windermere, Muskoka ON
This unique wedding venue stole our hearts with its historic Victorian-style setting nestled along the shores of the breathtaking Lake Rosseau. This Muskoka landmark offers a variety of venue options including the Islandview Room, the Grand Verandah and the sprawling lawn front. You and your guests can enjoy the 56 charming rooms and suites for a luxurious overnight stay just steps from your ceremony location of choice! Weddings are always beautiful but the backdrop of a breathtaking location can make the day that much more incredible, not to mention the photos! Of course Vancouver has a ton of amazing locations to say “I do” but these three destinations, just a jump skip out of town are extra special and totally worth the trip!
1- The Sunshine Coast
Dear to our hearts, the impeccable Sunshine Coast is easily our number one spot. From the quaint Bonniebrook Lodge in Gibsons, peacefully set along a strip of coastline comparable to some tropical beach to the rustic and homey style of Ruby Lake Resort cabins set on the warm and immaculately clear Ruby Lake. To the true meaning behind destination wedding at the beyond tranquil West Coast Wilderness Lodge perfectly tucked away into the serene bay in Egmont at the top of the Sunshine Coast Highway. This last gem is tied for top spot as our most favourite venue.

2- Galiano Island
Gorgeous Galiano Island, where I am actually writing this blog post from right now!! We came to know Galiano a few years ago when one of our sweet brides introduced us to the beyond beautiful Bodega Ridge (also tied for top favourite). Hidden up on the ‘quiet end’ of the island, sits this sprawling and picturesque venue. After many weddings on this dreamy Southern Gulf island, we have also fallen in love with the Spanish inspired Galiano Inn. Conveniently located right by the ferry and most shops/cafes, though once you enter their gates you are transported into the serenity of lush and pretty gardens and old world charm.

3- The Fraser Valley to Manning Park
If you don’t want to think about ferries, the Fraser Valley is super accessible from Vancouver. Rolling green hills and the incredible mountains are the amazing backdrop to this stunning area. Close enough to make a day trip but inviting enough to forget the city, this is really a majestic area. The crown jewel is the Fraser River Lodge. The old timey log cabins, elaborate aboriginal carvings, tons of activities and probably the best bridal suite ever, puts this gem among our top faves. If you really want your wedding off the beaten path and tucked away in nature feeling, Manning Park Resort could be the place for you. Located just beyond the Fraser Valley in E.C. Manning Provincial Park and nestled in the heart of the Cascade Mountains, Manning Park Resort is a ascetic and recreational paradise.
